About D. Michael Denbow

 

Denbow, Mike cropedDr. D. Michael Denbow, professor emeritus at Virginia Tech, received his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Maryland, and, in 1980, his Ph.D. in physiology from North Carolina State University. He retired after 38 years at Virginia Tech where he published over 230 papers, and taught courses including Anatomy and Physiology, Neurochemical Regulation, and Chinese Medicine. He has studied martial arts and tui na as a member of the North American Tang Shou Tao Association since the late 1980’s, and has taught martial arts for over 30 years.

Mike is president emeritus of  Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine (JTSCCM) having served as president for two years. He also taught anatomy and physiology at the school for ten years, and served as the Academic Dean for several years. He currently serves on their Board of Directors and continues to teach Grand Rounds at the school.

Mike is a licensed and nationally board certified acupuncturist and massage therapist. He completed the four year Diplomat of Acupuncture program at Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine.  He began studying Chinese Medicine in the 1980’s as a member of the North American Tang Shou Tao, a martial arts association emphasizing internal martial arts.  He is certified in both Jin Shou Tui Na and Zheng Gu Tui Na, forms of Chinese medical massage, and incorporates Jin Shou Tui Na into his acupuncture practice.  He is also certified through the American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia to teach Jin Shou Tui Na .  He makes extensive use of the Balance Method of acupuncture and tui na in his practice.
